Why I Believe Prevention Is Better Than Cure (And How to Actually Live That Way)

Why I Believe Prevention Is Better Than Cure (And How to Actually Live That Way)

I used to think feeling tired all the time was just part of being an adult. That pushing through was what you were supposed to do.

It wasn't until my health started telling me otherwise — loudly — that I stopped and paid attention.

That turning point changed my life. It's also why, 18 years ago, I opened In 2 Health in Bordertown. Because I know firsthand what it feels like to be let down by a system that only steps in after things go wrong. And I know there is a better way.

The system is set up to treat, not prevent

Our mainstream medical system is incredible in a crisis. I have so much respect for the doctors and nurses who show up when things are serious.

But day-to-day health? The slow creep of fatigue, digestive issues, joint pain, brain fog, low mood? Most of the time, the answer is to wait until it's bad enough to medicate.

I don't think that's good enough. And deep down, I don't think you do either — or you wouldn't be here.

Prevention isn't complicated. It's just not prioritised.

Here's what I've seen in 18 years of working with this community: most people know, on some level, what they need to do. Eat better. Move more. Sleep properly. Manage stress. Support their body with the right nutrients.

The problem isn't knowledge. It's that nobody's making it easy.

That's exactly what we're here for. Everything we stock, every conversation across the counter, every tool we offer in the gym — it's all designed to make healthy choices simpler. Not to overwhelm you or sell you something you don't need. Just to meet you where you're at and help you take the next right step.

What prevention actually looks like in real life

It doesn't have to be a complete overhaul. Start where you are.

In the shop, it might look like:

  • Swapping your morning coffee beans to ones we stock that are organic and mold free.
  • Adding a magnesium supplement because you haven't slept properly in months
  • Finding a natural alternative to something you've been reaching for out of habit

In the gym, it might look like:

  • Committing to three sessions a week — not to punish your body, but to nourish it
  • Using the infrared sauna for recovery and stress relief
  • Trying red light therapy for inflammation you've been quietly managing for years

Done consistently, these small changes compound. That's where the real difference happens.

The health you invest in now pays dividends for decades

I've watched people in this community go from exhausted and unwell to genuinely thriving. I've also watched people leave it too long — wait for the diagnosis, wait for the crisis — and then work twice as hard to get back to a baseline they could have protected all along.

Prevention is not about fear. It's about love — for your body, your family, and the life you want to live.

Start with one thing

You don't need to change everything at once. Come in for a chat, tell us what's been going on, and we'll help you figure out where to start.

We're here for you — in store in Bordertown, or online!
